Discover Albania’s Communist History on a Full-Day Tour!

For those intrigued by communist history, this full-day trip is perfect for you! Share your travel dates with us, and we’ll create a fascinating itinerary that dives into Albania’s relatively recent communist past.

Tour Details:

  • Start Time: 9:00 AM in Tirana
  • Duration: Approximately 6 hours (with flexibility based on your interests)
  • Lunch: We’ll make sure to include a food break—after all, no trip to Tirana is complete without tasting the local cuisine at one of its fantastic restaurants! Please note this is not included in the price you are requested to pay for participating in the tour.

Possible Itinerary Highlights:

  • Sali Shijaku House: Visit the historic home of Sali Shijaku, a key figure in Albania’s cultural and artistic scene during the communist era. This unique site offers insights into the lifestyle and experiences of artists during that time.
  • Film Archives & Kinostudio “Shqiperia e Re”: Explore the remarkable architecture of this former film studio, featuring a collection of vintage cars gifted to Enver Hoxha by international leaders. Please note that the Film Archives are open Monday to Friday, and while it was initially planned as a cinema museum, it now houses the Ministry of Culture, with the museum currently under construction nearby.
  • BunkArt 1 & 2: Discover the fascinating underground bunker built in the 1970s to protect the Communist party from foreign attacks. Since reopening in April 2016, BunkArt has become a popular spot showcasing art and history in a unique setting. You’ll have plenty of time to explore and enjoy all it has to offer!
  • Street Art Tour: While the Gallery of Arts is closed for reconstruction, Tirana’s streets are alive with vibrant street art that tells the story of the city’s transformation. We’ll take you on a walking tour to appreciate the creativity of local artists and the social messages embedded in their work.
  • Block Neighborhood: Once off-limits, this vibrant area of Tirana is now one of the city’s trendiest spots. Here, you’ll get a glimpse of Hoxha’s villa and that of his powerful Premier, Mehmet Shehu, who died under mysterious circumstances in 1981.
