Llogara: Alberti Hotel

There are a few hotels in the Llogora National Park, between Vlorë and Dhermi, but the very simple family-owned Alberti is our favourite for the warm welcome it offers guests.

Alberti is owned by a real Albert. After several years working in Florence, Italy, Albert and his wife returned to Albania. The restaurant is excellent, with a mixture of Italian and traditional Albanian dishes. Upstairs there are four very simple bedrooms, each with a TV and fridge. There’s no air-con here, as the hotel is about 750m above sea level so there’s simply no need, even during high summer.

The Alberti makes a great base if you want to go hiking on the wild Karaburun Peninsula. If you leave very early in the morning (and are very fit!) you can make it to Grama Bay and back in a day during the summer when the days are long. You might prefer to make the spectacular 40-minute drive down the Llogora Pass to the beach at Dhermi, though – or paraglide there in summertime.

The hotel is very easy to find, right by the road, close to where Julius Caesar and his army camped before moving to central Albania to fight against Pompey in 48BC.

Minimum stay: 2 nights (during high season – June, July, August)
